Snowshoeing sounds like it would be cold and miserable. Its really not! Snowshoeing is essentially hiking but in the snow. When you hike, you get warm. Why not hike in cooler temperatures!
Although I tend to wear a lot of layers while snowshoeing, I shed them like crazy once I start moving. You can warm up pretty quickly on a sunny day.
I like to wear snow pants but my upper body can be clad in as little as a t-shirt when it gets too warm.

You also want to consider sizing. Snowshoes are sized by the weight or load they will be supporting. This includes carried weight, such as a daypack or backpack.

The best style of boots to wear will have a rubberized bottom to keep water out and to prevent damage to the boots from the snowshoe straps. Boots like these are perfect!
